"preparing" sounds weird here. Could it be: "draw" or "paint"?
also your second option for the last line is better (using the verb 'to be' ), but "much' is not necessary, I'd say:
"I can't explain how happy I am/was"

You are right, "preparing" doesn't sound natural here. And I would have translated it as "drawing" or "painting", but "hazırladığın" (hazırlamak) means "prepare, arrange, etc.", so I was confused a bit.
And if it was meant "draw", I guess it should have been used the other verb in the original (çizmek, yapmak).
Can we translate it as "arrange"? Because I think it is not obviouse from the text that the person drew the picture him/herself.

And what we know about the picture is that it isn't taken,drawn or painted. Maybe some changes were made on the picture and it was given as a present, we can say. | | |
