IMHO, it would be better to translate "... командовать женщиной..." as "... to control a woman", because it reflects a wider sense of word "командовать", implied in the Russian phrase. "Giving orders" in this context mean, to my mind, "to give instructions; to order; to command", while there should be implied hidden or evident guidance over a woman, bending her to man's will. But the translation could be left in current form as well, I think it might be understood correctly anyway.
