"a tremendous lot of wind " doesn't sound well...what about: "plenty of wind"?

I think "plenty of wind" isn't strong enough to translate "ontzettend"; it literally means "appalling".

Hmm, does "an appalling lot of wind" sound good?

That 'lot' is the problem,
If you want to use a strong adjective the best way is combining it with 'amount'

"an enormous amount of wind"
