Many people believe that Trastevere is synonymous with Rome itself, that the Romans who live there are those who better convey the spirit of the city, like those of peripheral Garbatella. That is not quite the case. The neighborhood obviously preserves many of the picturesque houses and buildings, but these are extremely uncomfortable because they are old structures and have no elevator.
More than by Romans, Trastevere is the area of housing chosen by foreigners.
