It is true that there is the drought, the destroyed harvests, the tribal wars, the disorganized and ruined states. Any other country facing shortage would build food stockpiles. But they canâ€™t pay for them. Why? Because the big banks and their hedge funds get huge profits by driving up the prices of wheat, rice and corn.

Vier miljoen mensen zijn op de straten op zoek naar eten. Het is waar dat er droogte is, mislukte oogsten, stammenoorlogen, ongeorganiseerde en mislukte staten. Elk ander land dat een tekort tegemoet ziet zou voedselreserves aanleggen. Maar ze kunnen het niet betalen. Waarom niet?
