"Eu estudo alemÃ£o" wouldn't look strange or wrong for me, unless we are talking about disciplines: "Meu curso tem MatemÃ¡tica, Filosofia e AlemÃ£o em sua grade horÃ¡ria" ["My course has Mathematics, Philosophy and German on its schedule"].
