You could be right here, or could be not. That would depend on the intended meaning of the original source.

This translation was from the English text "To err is human, to forgive divine". Choosing to translate "err" as "sin", which is the direct translation of the word, would make snese in case the phrase was "To err is human, perfection is divine". A different message.

I thought my conversion make better sense assuming an another message was intended.

no, to err is human, to forgive divine, is very famous, so im sorry to say you are wrong in your deduction. Please trans, you got to stick to the source, its a matter of honesty, if you have better suggestions, include them in the comment box below the translation, it wouldnt be fair any other way. I like your translations, but if you learn how to play by the rules (which takes time I admit) it would be great.
To err or to sin is human, and its God who forgives, thats what it means.

I would admit that I had a wrong choice, as you've said I made a bad deduction. I wasn't aware of the saying.

Regarding honesty I'm honest to the meaning, I trans based on that. I can't think of sticking to the words/structures to do an acceptable translation. This is not a dictionary, texts-based translations are context-based translatinns. We stick to honesty of the process by sticking to the meaning of the source. Otherwise, we could put it to some auto translating tool.

If it's just a policy matter, that's another thing.
