Es ist einfach eine Art "mein lieber Bruder/Schwester" zu sagen.

sorry, why do you know it is incorrect? You can say also in german "mein lieber Bruder" in english it means "my dear brother"

"Seele" anlam olarak "ruh" kelimesini ifade etmektedir."mein Bruder" ise "(benim) kardeşim" anlamındadır. Canım kardeşim benim cümlesi anlamca verilememiştir.

"mein liebster Bruder" tercüme olarak daha doğru

Can it be used for both, brother and sister?

Yes, it can be used for both and also it can be an addressing for a close person like your best friend, not only "Bruder" or "Schwester". No matter the sex of that person. It can be male or female. These all depends on the context, you should know where/why/how/which conditioals etc. about this little thing to give the same effect in German or another language.

So, what would you suggest in German, Yolcu? I don't know if we have an expression equal to the turkish one..

I don't suggest anything, I am not a native German speaker. I just want to say this: Please don't try to do the translations like this. Write the notes below the translation for the translation you did, so it will be understood easily. That's all.

Do we need to translate the concepts word by word? This would be the most unsuitable part from the meaning, in my humble opinion.

I don't think I understand exactly what you mean, Yolcu. Especially your suggestion on how the translation should be done to be understood easily.

And translations shouldn't be done literally - most important is, to cover the meaning!

I think we should just write "Kann auch 'meine liebe Schwester' sein" under the translation and pass it.

Hi all, sorry for butting in but I se you need help iamfromaustria ,
"kardeÅŸ (literally "sibling" ) " is used both for "sister" and "brother" and also between very close friends, especially among men (but also among the women), so "brother" is a good choice but you may add it as comment that it is used for both.

It's also a little bit "von oben ab", as "kardeÅŸim" means "my younger brother/sister".

not it doesn't mean that because it is not "kardeşçiğim"

But it's not "abim" either.

well, it's just "kardeÅŸim" meaning either "my brother, or my sister" (the broter and sister may be younger than the speaker) and also "my dear friend", but I see what you mean Kafetzou, does German have the word "sibling" (without a gender meaning)? if it does, you can add it as a comment iamfrom.

"sibling" = Geschwister, but it's a plural word, so I would prefer the "mein/e liebe/r Bruder/Schwester". =)

Yes - I agree, iamfromaustria.
