"if only you weren't here"? Are you sure that's what it says???

'als jij hier niet was he' usually needs something extra behind it. 'If you weren't here.. I would (fill in)'.

I think she tries to imply something like 'what would I do if you weren't here'.

If you have any other suggestions then please tell me . It's not always easy to translate something literally (And another problem which sort of occured is that it's in Belgian rather than in Dutch)

It sounds like she wishes she WERE here, not that she WEREN'T. It sounds like she's writing to her mom and wishes she didn't have to do that (i.e. if her mom were there with her). Is that possible?

Nope that's not what it means. I think you've gotta think of 'What should I do without you' or 'how can I live without you'. As I said it means 'If you weren't here.... (something's missing, but in Dutch that's possible)'

Oh! OK - then "if only" is definitely wrong - that means "I wish"!

als jij hier niet was he,
if you here not were ?

What if you weren't here?

Hey I just noticed that you said it's in Belgian rather than in Dutch - should I change what it says the source language is?

I think 'what if you weren't here' is exactly what it means . I'm not quite sure whether it's belgian though.. seems like it..
