As Aneta says in the remarks, there's no subject in the line.
Perhaps we could change the order of words into:
"The island, regarded as a homeland" if that doesn't change the meaning, of course.
What do you think?

I thought pronouns were not used obligatorily with verbs in Latin sentences, I mean "habebat" would mean : " "she", or "he" regarded..." ...but my knowledge of Latin language isn't that good...

This is why I posted above and used an interrogation mark. (17 July 2009 14:40)

Yes, Francky, (very good knowledge of Latin!), the subcject implied is "s/he", but I thought we couldn't use optional subjects in a main translation. We can put them on the remark field I guess. What do you think?

Lilly, your version unfortunately changes the meaning, so I wouldn't agree with it.

Kopcologne, home country = homeland. Am I right?
