...to carry out any kind of information retrieval?
...to do any kind of search?
In English, to "do a search" implies retrieving the desired information?
Hmmm...

It's closer to your first proposal "carry out information retrieval". However, it's not exactly the same.
In the world of Internet, "remontée d'information" would be more along the lines of "pushing information" from one part of the web site to another. For example, the home page of a site can display the latest job opportunities posted in the recruitment section. In French, these would then be considered as "une remontée d'information".

Hi Ian, Salut Suricatt

I'm not sure of what I put in my first version

I ought to have noted it in the comments box, then I wouldn't have lost it!!

"Carry out" is probably better than "operate", thanks Ian

Maintenant l'épineuse question de la "remontée d'information".

Erm (comme di jp tout le temps) la "remontée d'information peut-elle être considérée comme une "centralisation" de l'information?

En ce cas là je suggèrerai:

"... allows you to centralise every type of information"

or in a more impersonal English:

"allows (for) a centralisation of every type of information"

or "all types"

Qu'est ce que vous en pensez les mecs?

Bises

...allows you to ensure that all the links on your site are kept up to date...?
...allows you to keep other sections of your site updated with your latest information...?
...ensures the distribution of the latest information to all other places on your site...?
...keeps all related sections of your site updated with the latest information...?

I think "remontée d'informations" might be best translated as "updating" or "keeping up to date" here?
Bien que leur traduction habituelle soit <<mettre à jour>>...?
Hmmm...
