Suivons nostre Heros
Tekstur

This is an excerpt from the 1686 opera, Armide, by J. Lully. While the majority of the opera is available in the English translation via Naxos - a classical music recording resource - the preface to the opera (rarely performed) and thus has not been made available. Curious to know a poetic translation of the above.

Preferably, an American English translation.

Thank you!

Ynskt mál: Enskt

Let us follow Oure Hero from whom we will not be repaired

He inviteth us to the Games which have for him been prepared

We shall there see Reynald despite Glutonies

Follow Advice both loyal and wise

We shall see him exit the Palace enchanted

Where in he had for love of Armid been arrested

And fly forth to where Glory calls his Courage

The Great King who shares among us his Desires

Belovedly sees us even in his Pleasures
Viðmerking um umsetingina
The original was written in a old timey French from the 1600s and so I tried to make the style similar in the English translation. I translated "Volupte" as "Glutonies" prioritising the poetic value (rhyme mostly) over the literal meaning ("voluptuousness")
