Hugann seiða svalli frá Hugann seiða svalli frá...
Tekstur
Framborið av Burka
Uppruna mál: Íslenskt

Hugann seiða svalli frá
sundin, heiði og skörðin;
vona-leið er valin þá
vestur Breiðafjörðinn.

Alt er borið burtu gróm
bæði af Skor og fjöllum,
því að vorið blóm við blóm
breiddi í sporum öllum.

Dægur-halli daggperlum
dreifir vallargróðann;
bjargastalla beltast um
blessuð fjallamóðan.

Þrjóti grið á þessum stað,
þá er lið að skeiðum,
því að hlið er opið að
úthafsmiðum breiðum.
Viðmerking um umsetingina
A beautiful song. I don't need to understand the lyrics to know that, but I'm curious.

The mind enchanted
Umseting
Enskt

Umsett av pias
Ynskt mál: Enskt

The mind enchanted by
the strait, the plateau and the mountain pass;
hopefulness is chosen there
westwards Breiðafjörðinn.

Everything is carried away,
mud from grooves and mountains,
because the spring bloom with flowers
spread all over the tracks.

Day conquers the dewdrops
scattered all over the field vegetation;
the mountain flowers grow around
the blessed mountain river.

When there's no mercy upon this place
the crowd will be divided,
because the gate is open to
the wide sea.
Viðmerking um umsetingina
Acc. to an Old Icelandic dictionary ”Dægur” should be translated as ”half a day” (could be night or day) but I guess it sounds a bit odd to write so? I wrote “Day” instead.

“úthafsmiðum” = “outerseafisheries”… interpreted it as the wide sea.

Hi lilian

Hi pia

Uff.. I'm not so poetic, but you are pia

If I would translate the first verse, I would do it like this:

The mind enchanted by
the strait, heath and pass;
the passage of hope is chosen
westward Breiðafjörðinn.

it seems to be the same as your translation

The second verse:

Everything is carried away, grime
from the grooves and mountains,
because the spring blooms with flowers
spread in all traces.

My English is not one of the best, so there may be some errors to correct.

The third verse:

The day tilt "daypearls"
scattered all over the field vegetation;
the mountain flower grow around
the blessed mountain river.

The fourth verse:

Run out of mercy at this place,
then the crowd will be divided,
because the gate is open to
the wide ocean water.

Thank you for the kind words Ernst... but it seems I’ve misunderstood much. Sorry! I waited a long time before I decided to give this request a try, guess I should have left it for a native to do. Lilian, if it’s easier to reject my translation and let someone else try, please do that!

I think there's no use in setting a poll, so if you agree I'll accept the translation.
