Judaics? Does it mean "the Jews"?

Yes,but i found the portuguese word for "jew" to be "judeu" and "judaic" is translated "judaico" and so i put "to the judaics"

How about "to Judaea"? That's the collective noun for all of the Jews (I think). I've never heard the word "judaic" as a noun.

Francky and Tantine, I'm cc'ing you in case maybe you've got an idea of what to with this.

Hi Kafetzou,

I agree with you here. There is no noun "Judaic" in English.

As you say, this word should be replaced by "to Judaea" or "to all Judaeans"

I found another noun "judaean" or "judean". Could't it be "to judaeans"/"judaean people"???

I think "To the Jews" is the correct. "To the Judaeans" would mean to the people of Ancient Judaea, a small piece of land on North of nowadays Israel.

I'm not sure you're right, Goncin. As Freya said, there is a word for that in Portuguese, and it wasn't the word in the original text. Maybe the writer did intend it to mean the people of Ancient Judaea.

Hi all,

I would even add that "to the Jews" seems a little bit pejorative.

Maybe "To the Jewish people" would be better in this case?

Ruth and her always useful participation . I didn't know that the word "Jews" has that pejorative bias in English yet. It used to have also in Portuguese, but I think today it has lost it all (Thanks God!).

I'm not sure I agree with you on this, Tantine, but maybe things are different "across the pond". Then again, you haven't lived there in quite a while ...

Hmm. I was going to ask you if you would write to the requester, goncin, to ask for more info on the context, but I see now that the requester of the English translation was not the original requester of the translation!

Now what should we do???

Never mind - I've change it to "the Jewish people" and I'll validate it.
