Aullus Gellius is the author of the Attic Nights, I don't know for sure if the name of the book is correct in English.

The meaning is correct, but the emphasis is a little different. May I suggest this alternative:

To the girl child Demosthenes stealthily came. But Lais asked for 10.000 dinars. The shamelessness of womankind and the magnitude of money frightened Demosthenes. So he left.

I agree with the emphasis, my English is guilty here. But I'm not sure about this> "shamelessness of womankind" - in the original is mulieris, woman.
