Clearer rules in submission page

I would like to have clearer rules on the submission page, in order to try to reduce the amount of requests that violate our terms of use.

Maybe something like this:

[1] NO "TRANSLATION" OF NAMES. Cucumis.org does not accept name translations anymore, except inside a larger text whose sole purpose is not the name translation itself.

[2] NO DUPLICATE REQUESTS. Before submitting your text to be translated, please perform a search using some significant words of your text to find whether it has already been translated on Cucumis.org.

[3] NO HOMEWORK. The goal of Cucumis.org is not to do your homework. This kind of request will be removed by the administrators.

[4] NO SINGLE OR ISOLATED WORDS. Cucumis.org is not a dictionary and will only accept requests for translations of single or isolated words when a good reason has been given in the request comments.

[5] PUNCTUATION, ACCENTS AND ORIGINAL SCRIPT ARE REQUIRED. If you are a native speaker of the text's source language, you should submit your text in the original script of the language, with all punctuation and accents required by that language. If not, your request may be removed by the administrators.

[6] PROOFREAD YOUR TEXT. If you have written or transcribed your text yourself, please check it for errors, even if you don't know the language it is written in. Texts with errors are very difficult for translate.

[7] EXPLAIN THE CONTEXT. Write a comment about your request, explaining the context. Unclear texts can lead to request removal.

What do you think? Please post your suggestions and corrections to my below-the-average English.

Yes Goncin.. specially rule number 5!

ACCENTS AND DIACRITICS ARE REQUIRED.
I've seen that they never place the correct diacritics of Polish language.
It's really a disaster!!

Great! Actually I hd in mind the same kind of thing with a bold title and little explanations.
Maybe later we can invite the users to visit the best sites to translate names or the best dictionnaries.

Once we all agree on this, I will create a wiki article with those texts and replace the warnings of the submition page with this article.

I agree 100%.

I was thinking too, of a button to automatically send a message to users that break the rules. it could come in 5 flavours. When an admin deletes a translation request, can can choose from 5 buttons:

Homew button
Dictionary button
dup button
tattoo button

So you and francky will not need to copypaste from the right language anymore, bcause the site will automatically take the right language for the user;
or the message will contain a link to the wikipage containing the right message in the right language.

jp, do you think it's hard to implement?

I agree with these new rules, but I'm not too sure about these new buttons. It might make the website too unclear for new members. (Unless you want to make these buttons available for experts only?..)

If I got Xini's idea, the buttons would be for admins only (not even bare experts).

Yes, only admins, since they only can delete requests.
Morever, they will appear only after having delete a request, to notify the user of his crime .

These are good ideas : goncin's with the bold texts on the submission page , and Xini's with these handy buttons

Folks,

Xini's idea is really nice and handy. However, I'll get satisfied just with the change of the rule texts.

As stated today, the rules are very subjective ["We don't like bla bla bla..."] and it's very difficult to make the author of a rejected request figure out what s/he has violated. So I think we need more objective rules, with more convincing power.

Returning to the buttons, they would be very useful, but now I'm seeing the things from jp's perspective. I'm also a webdeveloper, and I can reasonably say that the new feature would take a while (and some considerable efforts) to be implemented. Considering that jp is a quite busy guy, and Cucumis isn't even his primary concern, I only issued my proposal after ensure that it would be plain and easy to be done (only a little change of texts).

I think these are great ideas - I love Xini's button idea, too. Here are some corrections:

goncin, what did you mean with "unattendedly"? That's not a word in English, and I couldn't figure out what you meant to say. You've got that in #3 and #5.

Also, it should be either "this kind of request" or "these kinds of requests" (completely singular or completely plural).

The word "diacritic" is not widely known in English (except by linguists). I think "punctuation and accents" is enough.

This sentence,

If you don't proceed in this way, your request is risking to be unattendedly removed.

is really awkward. Is it necessary? If so, it should be as follows:

If not, your request may be removed by the administrators.

Also, I have a couple more suggestions:

7) USE THE ORIGINAL ALPHABET. It does not make our work easier if you transcribe your text from its original alphabet into Latin script - in fact, it makes it harder.

and, for translations into languages other than English, maybe:
DO NOT PRE-TRANSLATE YOUR TEXT. If you are not a native speaker of English, please do not pre-translate your text into English to make it easier for us to translate. This does not help us. Leave the text in the original language.
