I don't know how formal this letter is, but if it is not too formal you can say "merci" instead of "thank you"
I also have put "u" instead of "je" because that is commonly said in Flanders.

How formal is this letter, Madeleine?
Is it to someone you know, or to someone you have never met?
Because I need to know that so I can just some words.

No, I never met this person.
I want to write to him in his own language, I suposse it will cheer him up, he doesn't speak English very well.

Is that helping you Nathan? (thanks for the translation )

Yes, then I should not use "merci" =D
in Flanders we use a lot of french words, such as "merci" instead of "thank you", "çava" instead of "how are you" and "salut" instead of bye.

The item you are talking about in the translation, what kind of item is it: a package?

It is a formal letter, so I'll keep it the way it is now.

Yes, a package.

Don't worry, I think it is good the way it is. I suposse I can use the translation, can't I?

Thank you!

Yes, but probably the experts will complain about my translation, as they always do.
They always say I translate too flemish, well now I am allowed to do it!

And I used "u" because that is "you" in a formal way, but in the Netherlands they use "je" but in flemish we are more polite!

I for one really appreciate your help.

Now, I hope he will not reply in Flemish...
But if he does, I'll know what to do!

Have a nice evening Nathan!

Yup, all good!
I definately wouldn't add "merci", not if the letter ends with "hoogachtend" :P

This is why I asked if it was a formal letter! Haha, I know merci and hoogachtend do not fit in the same text, but if she wrote it to a friend we could say merci, and change hoogachtend in something else.

Hmm, I wonder what the Dutch expert (probably Lein) will think when she sees this looong conversation

Lein is ok, I am not talking about her. At least she understand it, I am talking about Martijn en Chantal.

Well, I do not want to provoce (or is it provocate?) any more conflicts.

To keep things formal, I would replace the exclamation mark with a full stop as in the original.
Otherwise fine.
OK?

Lein is doing a great job, Nathan, you are right about that.

I think it is provoke

Have a nice day!

I have changed it, I do not think it is any difference though. We use a lot of exclamation marks in flanders (at least I do!)
