This looks like a machine translation. I would reject it as the translator does not appear to know English well enough.

On the other hand, I believe that Ian's version above is the correct one.

I would put it this way: "Because of the minor nature of the matter, he hoped to be out in a short time."

I don't think the original actually SAYS "crime" - it just implies it. "Madde" means "matter" or "issue" (it also means "article", but not here).
