The story tells about Tom's bewildering mind tricks not to receive punishment and how he finally gets rid of them. Tom lives like a hero in his own world in the story.
When they reappear during the funeral everybody figures out that it was all a ploy. But Tom and Huck get away with this too by unveiling the robbers who planned to kill Mrs. Douglas who lives in the town. Tom and Huck are the only ones who know the right place of the treasure. They uncover it and live life as rich people.

during the funeral-> during the ceremony I think, as it is not mentioned in the text that it's a funeral, it's just a ceremony.
ploy-> should be "play" exactly according to the original text. ?

I think ploy is more proper to use here rather than simply a play.
