I'm not that good at Germain, and I may be wrong, but I understand
exactly the opposite.
" Nous les Francais ont balayés vous les Italiens de la la place.

Hi Italo07. Happy for you, that you won tonight, but I don't agree at all with the translation. I think it translated upside - down.
Can you explain it to me, please?

thx gamine, I think you are almost right! But it would be: "Nous Français balayent vous Italiens de la place".

Sorry, my French isn't good enough

GRRRRR! our beloved Francky Beri-beri was viciously "killed", then evicted from the playground, then referee was obviously for Italians, because he gave a red card to one of our players, then it wasn't too difficult after that for Italy to win! playing 80 minutes with 11 players vs 10 players.
Even Denmark would have won this way...GRRRRR!

The above quoted translation is incorrect, inadequate. The right meaning is a kind of a threat: "We, Frenchmen, we wipe you Italians out" or "We Frenchmen, we drive you, Italians, away". It rather should go like that: "Nous les Français, nous faison les Italiens chasser."

Being French native speaker myself, I edited this way and I can assume using future tense does that this message takes a threatening connotation, which wouldn't be possible using the present tense. Then "nous faisons les italiens chasser" isn't correct at all in French anyway.

But there's one thing about which you are right,("to wipe someone out" : "balayer quelqu'un" and I edited "sortir" with "balayer", although it is nearly the same meaning, (=>"out".
Thanks for your input jeromeschaser!

Poor Francky. I know, I was watching the game last night, and France did it's best game last night!!!But, I also think, that if they had played their 3 former games the way they played
yesterday, they wouldn't had been in the same position today.

And of course, Denmark would have won.
Rmember some years ago, when we wan!(against France and Italy.GRRRRR.

The German text is written in "Präsens" and the French one is written in "futur composé".

Wir Franzosen werden euch Italiener vom Platz fegen. = Nous les français allons vous balayer, vous les italiens.

Helllo ITALO07. Yes, you're right. The Germain is
in present sense, but you can't use it here in French. In French we must use future sense, otherwise it would have no sense and moreover it wouldn't be correct French. That was what Francky, the French expert said, but I think he's off line right now. Could you please CC him ? I can't , I'm not an expert. Thanks .

Thanks for the cc, Pia!
Thanks for the condolences, gamine!

Italo, you're right, I've seen it was in the present tense in German, but if you want to get a "threat connotation" in French, you'll translate using the future tense, as by definition, a threat is about something that is going to happen, not about something that is happening when you're saying it. The future here in the French text is the same as the English "we are going to..."
