Zabierasz ludzi

Przez tysiące łez ludzkich mówisz do nas Panie
W obrazach cierpienia pokazujesz Siebie
Malujesz życie w różnych odcieniach
Po dziwnych ścieżkach nas wiedziesz

Uczysz nas mądrości po swojemu
A w prostych słowach kryjesz Swe tajemnice

Zabierasz ludzi którzy nam tyle dali
Nie możemy zdać się na nich

You take away the people

Through the tears of thousands of people you speak to us, Lord
In pictures of torments you show Yourself
You paint life in various color shades
Strange are the paths You lead us through

You teach us wisdom Your way
And you hide Your secrets behind simple words

You take away those who have given us so much
We can't lean on them now

Hm, you typed: "rely" or "depend" - I'm undecided...

Sincerely, I can't decide too... The Polish line says sth between "relying" and "depending" on the people...
-->"Nie możemy zdać się na nich"

It looks like idiomatic expression.
It means that we can't live our life counting on their permanent help all the time. Because they will die one day and we will be lacking in their help...

The first line should read:
"Through the tears of thousands of people you speak to us, Lord"
And the last one I think "We can't rely upon them" would be fine.

What do you think?

For me fine, but I don't know what Alexander thinks.

One more to consider: "lean on"

"We can't lean on them now"

Actually, I'm also tempted to rebuild this line completely, but that would affect the Polish version, too.

"Who shall we lean on when they're gone?"

"lean on"! - Great shot!
Even if is not a translation word by word, Alexander, I really like the second proposal of yours. It precisely conveys the meaning of the last line...
