evaluating oneself?

are you allowed to evaluate translations you yourself made?
i did so on a couple till i noticed then switched to "i don't know"
of course till then i approved of all:-)

I don't approve translators voting for their own translations, -though I was doing it before I was an expert (with a little prickle in conscience :P)- but I don't approve of it at all now as they are very successful in giving a wrong impression on the number of green balls

This is a case of honesty with oneself, if one's really sure her/his translation is right, there's no damage voting for it. Of course one who isn't sure shouldn't vote for oneself...

That's where the problem begins I think , sometimes s/he may be wrong about the correctness of the tranlation as well (in other words, s/he may be sure of the correctness but it may not be correct though) and when "heavy" members (having good ratings) vote for themselves, it really makes MANY green balls

so lightweights can heavyweights can't, ok got it.

i had another question: when evaluating we are only supposed to check whether the MEANING is correct right? no grammar mistakes, details in the translation, right?

for a meaning-only request, you may only vote for the meaning but if it's not a meaning-only request, we pay attention to all details when polling

I've made a minor change. Now you are not invited anymore to evaluate your own translations. They don't appear in the list but if you manage to find one of your translations by your own means (not using the nominal "evaluation help" system), you can still evaluate it.
