I think that a Scandinavian forum would be useful for all people who speaks Scandinavian languages (Swedish-Danish-Norwegian). It would be a solid platform for those who are interested in the Scandinavian languages and would also be centre for discussing difficulties with the translations to and from Scandinavian languages.

Each language is too small for an individual forum but together under the Scandinavian flags it would be appropriate.(it works for SAS at least)

Good didea, it's not yet possible to group several languages for one forum but this is definitely a necessary feature (portuguese / brazilian portuguese, chinese simplified and classic etc..).

I've added it in my todo list but do't expect it before a long time.

Which scandinaivan languages should we group ?

Hi, it's now possible to redirect several languages to only one forum. So we can do it.
Once you have an idea of the sections you want to create, tell me and you become admin to create and moderate those forums.

I'm not sure you will get a lot of messages because for now only english and brazilian forums have enough posts, but it's nice to have a scandinavian forum.

By the way, I've used this new feature to merge the european and brazilian languages into one forum.

Hi! It would also be nice to have a Spanish forum... I´ve just seen there isn´t. But of course if there are enough people who would use it and somebody who could be Spanish admin.

I wish there was a need for a Hungarian forum!

I have now been thinking about a Scandinavian forum and I think that a Nordic forum would be better.

The included languages are:

Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, Icelandic

Minority languages, but with a lot of people interested in learning and speaking them, from all around the world, (ask Casper).

I can't understand Finnish but that would be helped by bridging, or a brief english/swedish summary), every member could indicate if they prefer a summary in any language.

We would have the possibility to discuss the linguistic differences, grammar, classical language forms, similarities. etc. We could also present difficult requestions that might be interpreted in different ways.

Also this would be a perfect consultative board to all other translators if they are in doubt of which language they are dealing with (it is quite common with wrong flags on nordic languages.)

I hope our new Icelandic member, Magnus Gudmundsson, will join us enought to become an expert. His Icelandic is very good!

Hm... the idea to create an ´East European Forum´ is really nice!

Then I think the following languages could be taken in: Slavic & Hungarian & Lithuanian & Estonian & Latvian

By the way, Porfyhr. What about Faroese? If you include Icelandic, you should include Faroese also. Maybe there will be more people atracted, it is s beautiful language, in the end, and I saw there are a few on the site who know also Faroese.

P.S. Cisa, what a great idea! I have been thinking for a while to a Romanian forum, but I am not one of the best moderators (especially because I get upset quite quickly) and, besides, I suffer of chronical "lack of time". But an "East European Forum" would be great. Of course, if Romanian would be included.

Oh, I´ve forgotten about Romanian, there are Slavic languages all around me... I like the idea! Of course it could be in English and those languages included.

to create new forums, I need to knwo the list of langauges you want to regroup and a motivated person to create the topic.

I suggest that we discuss the different topics that wuold be good to see in a a Nordic and Eastern forum.
Then when it's ready, we'll need an administrator, a person who will cerate the topic in database and who will moderate the messages.

Iepurica, I´m glad you also like the idea. Well, I think the languages included should be:

All Slavic & Hungarian & Romanian & Lithuanian & Latvian and Estonian

Or did I miss out any language?

Jp, do we need to have ideas for topics as well?
Then mine would be:
General - introduction, site, suggestions, problems
Languages - languages, translation, language learning, exchange, penpals
Off-Topic- anything
Administration - for experts and admins of Easter Europe

What does exactly a forum admin has to do? Is there anybody you could think of?

Jp knows actually better, maybe he can tell us. But, if I am not wrong, the administrator has to moderate the discussions. I don't actually know whom could be the best as administrator, but I believe we need some one calm and with a lot of diplomacy. Sharp and kind in the same time. And I do not know so well the people around. What about you? (don't kill me....).

I would include Faroese also in the Nordic Forum, jp. It is part of these languages. I know it exists the wrong idea that Faroese is a dialect of Danish. More than wrong, if resembles something, resembles Icelandic. But , anyway, this is an entire different topic.

Well, Iepurica, if Jp thinks I could manage that.... I´m logged in nearly every day, I like posting to forums, I try to be diplomatic and I could be the abusive users´ nightmare! Haha

But considering that the forum would consist of quite many languages and a wider territory, maybe somebody with other languages could also be admin (thinking here: 2 admins). I mean, I can cope with Hungarian and Slavic messages, but somebody other would be needed for Romanian and Baltic ones. (Because I can´t understand those.)

Anyway, Jp and time will decide.

Iepurica!

I made a mind slip.

Of course Føroyskt should be included. but then it is enough. We have Samii, Jämtsk and so on in Sweden but we must focus upon the languages with a proper status connected to the priviliges to a country.

So PLEASE JP, Create our Nordic fora with Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Faeroese, Finnish and Icelandic. NO more languages should be added.

If a can help you to sort tings out just let me know.

Iepurica Eg føler meg som en dust!!!

Actually, I can only group languages which the interface of cucumis has already been translated into. Imean For nordc forum I can group Swedish, Norwegian, Danish Finnish.

But you can create topics for icelandic and faroese speakers if you wish.

Yep Cisa might be able to create and moderate the topic of the eastern forum. Iepurica can help you with romanian.

But don't think there will be a lot of messages. We can see it on other forums, despite we have many brazilian people, there are much more messages in the english forum .

Ok I will start to do something and notify you when it's ready.
