Explain 'imbibe' in attached text, please!!!

One of my students, with the use of an Internet translator of some sort, presented the following statement in his assignment: 'Partial treatment of others is not inherent, it rather results from environmental conditionings, imbibed at school or at home.'
I know you can imbibe liquids. I know you can imbibe knowledge. BUT CAN YOU IMBIBE ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONINGS??? Can anybody imbibe environmental conditionings on you, i.e. can you be imbibed by them???

To be honest, I don't understand this statement either. Maybe you should ask this student to explain it with other words, what he/she meant by this and, of course, not use an Internet translator again.
