On 28 October each year in Greece we celebratethe Okhi_Dayin memory of the Greek dictator Ioannis Metaxas's rejection of the ultimatum made by Italian dictator Mussolini on October 28, 1940.
It's a public day here in Greece, meaning no work,no school, nothingMilitary and student parades take place and most public buildings and residences are decorated with Greek flags in order to honor the ones that fell during the battles in Albania,Greco-Italian War,the heroes that made Winston Churchill say:
"Hence we will not say that Greeks fight like heroes, but that heroes fight like Greeks."

The following fragment of the wiki-article reveals the importance of this war and the Greek victory:
" The Greek victory over the initial Italian offensive of October 1940 was the first Allied land victory of the Second World War, and helped raise morale in occupied Europe. Some historians argue that it may have influenced the course of the entire war by forcing Germany to postpone the invasion of the Soviet Union in order to assist Italy against Greece. This led to a delayed attack and subjected the German forces to the conditions of the harsh Russian winter, leading to their defeat at the Battle of Moscow."

And a part of the story that interests us as translators is that Metaxas never replied with the word Okhi(No),he said "Alors,c'est la guerre"..
