Hello, JP!

Bon courage! cordialement, Francky.

May I ask why have you rejected my translation? I have asked a girl I know, who is actually French speaker (she is from Togo and the official language is French there) and this is the explanation I've got.
So. I would like to get an explanation, maybe I can correct my mistake somehow, especially because you have also asked for a Romanian translation of the word.

Hallo Frankie, the word 'dispregiativo' means in a bad way, in an insulting way. Between friends it could be used in a 'confidential' manner, but normally it is an insult.

Viviana

Hello, may I ask you something? I have been thinking to the word you have explained to me and I can not find other word in Romanian except the equivalent of the word "snob" in English. Is it acceptable for you?

As far as I understand it, pétasse can have two meanings:

stupid tart - Très familier
slut - péjorative

I went for the first translation, as the second is very offensive. Zorra covers both tart and slut (and it also can mean something like cunning woman).

Alternatives in English are: bimbo (boba, tonteja, sonsa, barbie in Spanish), floozy (ramera), hussy (libertina, pícara, mujerzuela), strumpet (puta) or bitch or stupid bitch (bruja, puta).

From your message, I think that pétasse is perhaps being used differently these days and does not necessarily have sexual connotations. You say it means someone who acts superior so what about snob which is used in all three languages? Or is that not offensive enough? How about toffee-nosed cow in English (presumida, engreída in Spanish)?

But I like fulana better. Up to you.

By the way, I understand a little bit French (my father spoke fluently and I have learnt a lot from him, besides, Romanian had great influence from French till after second world war). I don't speak it thou. Unfortunately
