If life is to continue, the dance around the golden calf has to end, they claim, or else nature, as we know it today, will disappear in a few years.

Hi Bamsa
I suggest one or two edits to fluidify the English:
"
If life must
continue... ... the golden calf
has
to end..."
The rest seems ok but as I don't speak any Danish, I've opened a poll.

I was just wondering, Tantine, wouldn´t it be more correct to say: "or else nature as we know it today..." ?
Ah, and what about: "If life is to continue"?

or else the nature we know today, is awkward. Do you mean of else, nature as we know today, ?

Hi all,
Anita is right, it should read "as we know it"
"or else" seems totally appropriate here as I consider it as a synonym of "otherwise"
I don't know what "of else" could mean here, it is not a structure I have often come across.
Bamsa - I will do a few edits and we'll see if it looks right, then I'll be able to validate.

I don't think "if life must continue" is the best translation. it seems to change the meaning a bit.
I would suggest:
"If life shall continue" or "If life is to go on"

Bhatarsaigh: I had also suggested "If life is to continue" (in the above)

Actually if life is to continue or if life is to go on is much more in keeping with the rest of the English.
